Five years ago, Surgery, Inc. of Tulsa, OK, had five full-time collectors on staff and also used a collection agency to handle its past-due accounts. According to Administrator Ruby Dust, "It wasn't working well. Our collectors spent most of their day on 'hold' trying to get through to our self-pay patients on the phone."
What was worse was the sting of paying an agency 40% commission on recovered money. The recovery rate was low and frustrations ran high.
While attending an MGMA (Medical Group Management Association) meeting at that time, Ruby heard a representative from GreenFlagSM Profit Recovery by Transworld Systems. "I started right away with GreenFlag for self-pay patients and eventually used them for insurance reimbursement. The change was immediate."
The most striking difference was a recovery from between 80% and 90% thanks to GreenFlag's early action when accounts are just 45 days old.
"As for the insurance companies," Ruby explains, "When they realized we were going to GreenFlag their accounts, they changed the way they dealt with us and we now have a very good relationship."
Having brought their past due accounts situation under control, Surgery, Inc. now submits 600 accounts per year to GreenFlag and Ruby has nothing but praise for the company.
"The GreenFlag service has not only helped us recover our profits, but it has helped us maintain a good rapport between us and our patients."
She adds that, "The system is very user friendly and there's always somebody at customer service to help you answer any question."
Now when Surgery, Inc. has a past due account, she knows just to "GreenFlag It!"
